Application deadline extended

We still have some spaces available in the course, so we will be extending the application deadline by two weeks. The new application deadline is May 19th.

In addition, we will accept applications from interested high school teachers in addition to middle school teachers.

Correction to course dates

Please note there is a minor correction to the course dates as previously listed. The course is 6 days, not 7 days. The correct course dates are July 11th - July 16th, 2011 (Monday-Saturday).

Act 48 Hours

Teachers will have the option to audit the course for thirty Act 48 hours instead of graduate credit. The price to audit the course will be $200 to cover supplies and materials. Please let us know if you are interested in this option when you submit your application materials.

Three more weeks to apply

There are still three more weeks to apply for Educational Robotics for the Classroom. Interested in the course, but not sure if it's quite right for you? Drop us an email. We're happy to talk with interested teachers about the course, application process, or any other questions you might have.

Application is now open

Application is now open for CMU course 16-651 Educational Robotics for the Classroom. Middle-school and high-school teachers from all subject areas are invited to apply. The course will take place on the CMU main campus in Pittsburgh from 9am-3pm on July 11th - July 16th, 2011.

This course will teach you about educational robotics and how you can apply this exciting learning tool in your own classroom. The course will place a particular emphasis on combined arts and technology approaches to robotics and how these tools can be adapted to achieve learning goals in subject areas like English, history, math, and more. A technical background is not a prerequisite for successful course completion.

Teachers completing the course will receive 3 CMU graduate units (equivalent to 1 graduate credit at other universities) as well as a robot kit to keep. Thanks to an NSF grant, all accepted applicants will receive a $1000 tuition scholarship. You will be responsible for the remaining $500 tuition.

Teachers have the option to audit the course for thirty Act 48 hours instead of graduate credit. The price to audit the course will be $200 to cover supplies and materials.

We will be reviewing applications as they are received and filling some of the 10 available course spots early. The final application deadline is May 5th, 2011, but we encourage you to apply early to increase your chances of acceptance.

Read more about the course, review application requirements, and download the application form through the links at the top of this page. We look forward to hearing from you and hope you will join us this summer!
